Khizr Khan criticized Donald Trump in a speech he gave at
the Democratic National Convention – the irony of it all is that his son was an
American casualty of the Iraq War who was a Muslim.
Unfortunately, in choosing Muslim parents of a casualty of the
Iraq War to speak at the Democratic National Convention, Hillary Clinton is
clouding the issues with her foreign policy completely. In tugging on the
heart-strings of Americans, she neglects to mention that her vote on the Iraq
War was what cut Khizr Khan’s son’s life short: it is her hands which are
stained with his blood.
Hillary Clinton, though choosing a moderate Muslim couple to
speak at the democratic convention, has done far more to strengthen terrorism
and radical Islam in the Middle-East than support families like the Khan’s. Afghanistan,
Iraq, Egypt, Libya, Syria – these countries have all been damaged by Hillary
Clinton’s reckless decision-making, and it has only been other regional players
that have decreased terrorism in the region, such as Saudi Arabia and U.A.E. in
Egypt and Russia in Syria.
How many Khizr Khans are suffering in the Middle-East today because
of Hillary Clinton’s bad judgement and poor decision-making? The answer is
there are thousands. More than Americans can comprehend.
What Clinton fails to understand is that for many Muslims on
the Sunni side of Islam, the Iraq War was an ultimate betrayal by the West on
the Arab people. A functioning secular government ruled by Sunni Muslims –
which also resisted Israel – was handed over to sectarianism, terrorism and
killing of many peoples and minorities. Out of this war spurned ISIS, and many
Sunni Muslims were so mistreated by the Iraqi government she helped impose, they
willingly joined ISIS’ ranks.
Clinton does not understand that a true Sunni Muslim – true according
to the Islamic texts of the Qur’an and Hadith – would withdraw from the
American military rather than engage in a war that would strengthen Sunni
Muslims’ enemies – Iran and Israel. Israel has strengthened ties with other
adversaries of Iran, such as Saudi Arabia, and Iran has gained yet another ally
in Iraq, adding to Iran’s considerable list of allies: Syria, Palestine and
Lebanon.
Strangely, Donald Trump’s desire to temporarily ban all
Muslims from travelling in America is exactly what is needed to stem terrorism
in America. At the moment, it is near impossible to work out whether a Muslim
is moderate or extreme – America should not willingly become like France or
Belgium with no idea about what kind of Muslims live in their country.
Instead, many steps are needed in trying to figure out the
extremists from the moderates. Screening is needed, as well as moderation of
mosques and working out who is paying for what Islamic institutions – some nations
who fund these do so because they wish for terrorism to spread across the
globe.
The speech made by Khizr Khan clouds and distorts the kind
of war Donald Trump wishes to fight: a war on radical Islam, not a war on
Muslims. In framing Donald Trump as a heartless monster who does not care about
the plight of his son, Khizr Khan has done his son’s memory no favours. Khizr
Khan has strengthened the candidate who will make things worse for Muslims in
the Middle-East and cause many other parents – American and Arab alike – to
lose their children.
Khizr Khan, my heart goes out to you, and I know that my
words are unkind. But I am not sorry for what I have said. Remember your pain,
and remember also that the candidate who will make your pain spread to other
families is the candidate you supported at the Democratic National Convention.
Trump does not wish to fight wars on legitimate Middle-Eastern
governments – Clinton does. Trump wishes to fight the war on radical Islam –
all Clinton has done is grow and grow it. Your son is dead because of decisions
senators like Hillary Clinton made in the Senate.
